Spoil the birds with gourmet seeds, unusual nectars, jellies and their favorite seed.
A bird’s life in the summer is no vacation! Mothers are laying eggs, nesting and feeding hungry hatchlings. Babies leave the nest to fend for themselves. And some birds do all this several times in a season.
Create the perfect picnic spot for the birds and you can witness all this in your own backyard. Try this for your menu:
Sunflower, Safflower, Nut and Fruit Blends served in a Hopper or Platform Feeder or Large Tube Feeder
- These feeders accommodate a huge variety of birds with their large perching area. And seed blends full of black oil sunflower and safflower are favorites among the jet set. You’re likely to spot cardinals, jays, doves, wrens, chickadees, titmice, and nuthatches, woodpeckers and grosbeaks.
Finch or Thistle Seed served in a tube-shaped finch feeder or mesh sock
- Let the feeder swing from a tree branch or shepherds’ hook. Acrobatic chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, goldfinches and house finches will reward you with a flurry of feathers.
Dried mealworms encased in suet cakes or placed in a dish feeder
