  • Use A Pre-Selected Palette

One of the easiest ways to find a complementary color to you main color is from a color palette. Many brochures that have color themes on them are great tools too. These colors are chosen by designers. You get the free help from professionals right on the card.
  • Balance Color Proportions

To have a balance color palette you want to make sure your proportions are not equal. Do not allow your colors to fight for dominance among your decor. To do this correctly, your main color should be about 60% present radiating from your walls or cabinetry. 30% moves in from the floor, while 10% should be present from accent items.
  • Let Nature Inspire You

Nature never gets proportions wrong. Look outside your window for inspiration on complementary colors. Choose a palette inspired by your surroundings.
  • Try A Color Wheel

Complimentary palettes are made of colors opposite one another on the color wheel. While, analogous palettes are made of side by side colors on the color wheel. Lastly, monochromatic palette use different values/hues of similar colors to create a palette. All three, are  great ways to find inspiration on a color wheel.
  • Use A Treasured Object

Get inspiration from something you love. Whether that be a painting, a beloved object, or photo. Use the emotion towards it to develop a color palette that brings your happiness.
