How to Use a Gas Grill to Smoke

Adding smoke to your gas grill is easy with some helpful tools from Ace.  I have picked 3 of my favorite smoke tools for you to choose from.  I use them all in our cooking projects and have found some great flavor by adding smoke before and during the cooking process.

Smoking Directions

Preparation Tips:

  • Choose your preferred smoker product
  • The AMAZEN tubes come in 2, 4 & 6 hour size
  • Pick a stronger wood that will impart heavier flavor in a short amount of time (if desired)
  • The Weber smoker box can use wood chips, small chunks or even wood pellets as the smoke source
  • The Grill Mark smoker box can use wood chips, small chunks or even wood pellets as the smoke source
  • CHEF TIP – if doing a low and slow smoke project adjust the burners to maintain the desired heat and use opposite burners to create that indirect heat.  Be sure to place the smoker box or tube over the heat source.
  • For low and slow smoke projects, you may have to reload the smoker boxes or tube

TO PREPARE THE WEBER GAS GRILL – SMOKER BOX

  • Fill smoker boxes FULL with wood chips, chunks or pellets – USE DRY CHIPS/WOOD/PELLETS
  • With grill OFF – lift up grill grate and load smoker box on top of the burners/flavorizer bars
  • Ensure grill grate lays flat and set grate down into its normal position
  • Turn burner onto high to ignite wood and start the flow of smoke
  • Adjust burner as needed to maintain smoke and temp
  • For quick smoke projects such as grilling, set food next to smoker box while cooking to get some fast and great smoke flavor
  • For long smoke projects, set food away from smoker box for a more even and slow smoke
  • Load product and smoke for desired time
  • RE-load smoker box if needed
  • *** USE TONGS AND HEAT PROOF GLOVES TO HANDLE ***
  • *** GRILL GRATES, SMOKER BOX AND GRILL ARE HOT ***
     

TO PREPARE THE WEBER GAS GRILL – SMOKE TUBE

  • Fill smoke TUBE FULL with pellets and place onto the grill grate
  • Use starter gel or torch to ignite the pellets
  • Let smoke tube start to smoke medium to heavy before
  • Light the grill and turn to desired temperature
  • Adjust burner as needed to maintain smoke and temp
  • Move the smoke tube to its desired location using TONGS or HEAT PROOF GLOVES
  • For quick smoke projects such as grilling, set food next to smoker tube while cooking to get some fast and great smoke flavor
  • For long smoke projects, set food away from smoker tube for a more even and slow smoke
  • Load product and smoke for desired time
  • RE-load smoker tube if needed
