How To Grill A Steak On A Smoker

Ingredients

Start off by collecting the key ingredients for this steak.  Use your favorite oil, spice or rub and a quality steak.  Skip the expensive olive oil for your salad any oil will work for this recipe.

Prep

Use a cast iron griddle for your steak and place the griddle on the grates.  Your griddle should be cold and placed on to cold smoker grates, so don't heat it up first. You will want to position the griddle on the center of the heat shield.  Pour in your desired wood pellets for the steak.  Then, preheat the Traeger to the highest temperature.  Heat the griddle to around 550 surface degrees. Remove the steak from the packaging and let it rest for about 5 minutes so the muscles can relax before being grilled.  Then add desired seasoning to the front and back of the steak.   Add a small amount of oil to the griddle.

Grilling

Place the steak on top of the griddle and close the lid. Cook the steak for 5 to 7 minutes and then flip it onto the other side. Remove the steak after cooking on griddle for 5 minutes.  Let the steak sit on a plate outside the Traeger for 5 minutes.  If you are worried about getting that perfect temperature, then try an iGrill for your  steak!  Using this app controlled device you can choose the protein and the preferred temperature to get the perfect steak for your guest! Whether it's medium rare or well done, the app will notify you when it's ready to be removed from the grill!
