Thawing a turkey is the first of several essential steps to getting a great result for your feast. Whether it's in the fridge or in the sink, let us run through the options and timing you need to thaw a turkey.

The National Turkey Federation also offers these safety recommendations:

 
                                      IN The Fridge –
        • Place Frozen Turkey into pan (to catch any juices that may leak)
        • Leave turkey in the packaging
        • Allow 1 day per 5# of Turkey IN The Sink –
          • Wash, Rinse and Sanitize your sink
          • Fill sink halfway full of room temperature tap water and turn off water
          • Add your frozen turkey (still in the package)
          • Allow turkey to thaw in the water for 30 minutes
          • Drain water, flip turkey and refill with room temp tap water
          • Repeat this process every 30 minutes
          • Allow 2 hours per 1# of Turkey to defrost in water
          • Safety Tip – Turkey should be cooked immediately after sink defrosting
