Sure, it's a simple tool to use, but there is a right way and a wrong way to use a hammer. Check out Lou’s tips and advice on how to make hammering simpler and safer!
How to Use a Hammer
To maximize the hammer’s power, be sure to grip the handle towards the bottom. While using a swift, steady motion, swing the hammer from the elbow, not the wrist. This lets the hammer do the bulk of the work and drives the nail in faster.
The claw pries out nails and slips under edges. By sliding a shim or scrap piece of wood under the claw, you will prevent scuffs and marks on the surface.
Be sure to use the right hammer for your job. If you’re unsure on which hammer to use, check out our video on How To Choose A Hammer.
