The kitchen is the heart of the home, so it is important to choose colors that reflect the style and mood of the space you want to create. Different colors can greatly affect how the space feels.

Shift into Neutral

Neutral colors are great for kitchens. They create a look that is clean, classic, tasteful and always in style. Neutral colors give an open and airy feel. Paint cabinets and walls with soft, light shades. Neutral colors also have broad appeal, so they are a great choice if you are trying to sell your home.  If you still want a pop of color, you can add this to your kitchen through accessories.

Take it Up a Notch

Different colors can change the personality of your space. Soft, warm yellows create a cheerful and happy mood, where light blues and muted greens create a welcoming and friendly feel. Mix in neutral colors to tie in flooring or other elements, that make the kitchen flow. Layer in deeper and brighter colors through place settings or window treatments as accents to liven up the space.

Go for the Bold

Bold colors are playful and fun and will give the kitchen an uplifting look. Red is a great color for kitchens because it stimulates appetites and conversation. Use a darker shade for the walls or back splash and a lighter tone for the cabinets or accents. Be sure the paint you choose can hold up the every day wear and tear in kitchens. Semi-gloss paint is good for cabinets and trim and satin will work well for walls and ceilings.

Extend color from inside to outside to bring the spaces together. Accessorize with lighter and deeper shades of your paint color to bring the whole look together.
