Yearly Care Checklist For Your Big Green Egg

Happy Grillaversary, it’s time for a checkup for your favorite cooking tool and we have some helpful tips to keep you dialed in and ready for EGGcellent cooking adventures ahead.

With some proper care and cleaning, your Big Green Egg will last for many years and provide you with some great food memories.  


Tune Up Checklist

  • rEGGulator Top or Daisywheel Style – Clean, free from buildup and rust

  • Handle – in good condition, bolts tight

  • Top Band – bolts tight and band in its proper location

  • Hinges – springs working, springs firm and in good condition, hinge operating correctly

  • Be careful not to over tighten nuts and nut caps

    • Standard Nut = 1/2”

    • Nut Caps = 7/16”

    •  Nest wheels = 9/16”

  • Lower band bolts – both nuts tight (use 1/2” wrench) and band firmly in place with no slip to lower band or slip with dome in upper band.  Okay for bolts to have slight bend. Band (upper and lower) Nut Caps tight – use 7/16” wrench

  • Thermometer – secure in place

  • Gasket – in good shape and not deteriorating or missing

  • Fire ring – in good shape and free from cracks

  • Fire Grate or Fire Bowl – in working condition and not in need of replacement

  • Fire box – in good shape and free from cracks

  • Egg Base – in good shape and free from cracks

  • Draft Door and Screen – in good shape and fit snug into grooves

  • Original Nest – All Bolts and screws tight and nest is steady and firm.  Wheel nuts tight

  • Integrated Nest / Handler – All Bolts and screws tight and nest is steady and firm. Wheel nuts tight

  • Modular Nest – All Bolts and screws tight and nest is steady and firm. Wheel nuts tight

  • Table Nest – All Bolts and screws tight and nest is steady and firm. Wheel nuts tight
