5 Tips To Keeping Your Dishwasher Like New

You’d think your dishwasher was spotless with all of the times you’re running it, after all its job is to clean. However, overtime the gunk and grime from your plates needs to go somewhere and not cleaning nor maintaining your dishwasher can impact its performance. Check out our tips to keep your machine pristine.

5 Tips To Keeping Your Dishwasher Like New

  1. Learn It
It may sound boring, but take the time to review the appliance owner’s manual. Your system may have more bells and whistles then you ever imagined. Some systems have numerous cycle and drying options. Understanding which works best for your dish situation will result in cleaner dishes and save time for rerunning later. Using a shorter cycle may not be what your dishes need and then you’ll be running the appliance again. Give your water bill a break and do some dishwasher manual reading, you won’t regret it.
  2. Run It
Use your dishwasher frequently as it will help keep food from settling and sticking to the appliance.   After each run, check the bottom of the dishwasher and remove any waste you find. One of the main complaints from a smelly dishwasher comes from food the collects the bottom.
  3. Clean It*
Besides cleaning the overall appliance, take the time to address the compartments and crevices. Areas like edges around the door, drain, gasket, flatware basket and spinning arms (including small water holes) are missed frequently during a quick dishwasher maintenance cleaning. When neglected, the system can’t perform good clean as remaining food particles can get sprayed around and odor accumulates. The filter is probably the most missed item in the cleaning process.
  4. Inspect It
Pay attention to how your dishes come out after you run the appliance. If you’re noticing too many dirty or spotty dishes, you’ll want to address it sooner rather than later.   Most of the times the issue is the filter. A dirty or damaged filter can cause food to build up. If not cleaned or repaired your dishwasher’s pump or motor seals can be damaged. Not to mention food may start accumulating in your pipes.
  5. Love It
Maintain your dishwasher by using quality products. Use cleaning products on your dishwasher that are designed for a specific purpose. If you use the right product, your results will be consistent and you won’t waste time trying multiple solutions.*Follow your dishwasher owner’s manual for specific instructions about how to properly clean your dishwasher.
