How To Make Dessert Pizza on Big Green Egg

They say pizza is life, I agree.  NOW, imagine apple and cherry cobbler pizza with that amazing streusel topping and then some caramel on top.  It’s happening, soon, on your grill and we can’t wait to see the photos. Ace Hardware's Grilling Expert, Chef Jason, is here to show you how to do it. 


Yield: Serves 4 People     Prep time: 5 Minutes     Cook time: 12-15 Minutes depending on desired doneness

Ingredients

  • 1 ea - ​​Pizza Dough Ball, Fresh - ​​​​​8oz w¼ Cup​​Cherry Pie Filling​​​​​​
  • 2 ea​​ - Braeburn Apples, Small - ​​​​​Cored and sliced thin
  • 1 pkg​​ - Crisp Topping/Streusel Topping​​​ - 10 oz pkg​​​
  • 5 Tbsp​ - Butter, Salted - ​​​​​​Room temp
  • 2 Tbsp - Butter, Salted​​​​​​ - melted
  • 2 Tbsp​ - Sugar, Granulated​​​​ ​​
  • ½ tsp - ​​Cinnamon, Ground​​​ ​​​​
  • 4 Tbsp - Caramel sauce​​​​​​s - lightly heated

Preparation

  1. Clean out your Big Green Egg, remove any ash from the pit and load with new lump charcoal
  2. Light the charcoal, adjust the top and bottom vents and guide temperature to 600 degrees
  3. Setup your Big Green Egg for indirect cooking – add the convEGGtor with the legs facing up and add the pizza stone
  4. Allow the pizza dough to warm up, covered, at room temp, for 1-1.5 hours or until soft
  5. Stretch the pizza dough to make a 10” Pizza
  6. Lightly flour your pizza peel
  7. Lay the dough on the pizza peel
  8. Quickly Build as follows:
    1. Pizza Dough
    2. Spread the Cherry pie filling leaving 1” border
    3. Layer the sliced apple
    4. Top with the streusel topping
  9. Once the temp reaches 550-600 degrees, BURP the Egg and open the lid slowly
  10. Launch the pizza into the center of the pizza stone and shut the dome
  11. Let the pizza cook for approx. 7 minutes
  12. Burp the egg and open the dome
  13. Check the crust edge for firmness, if it is firm proceed with the next step.  If not firm, cook for an additional minute
  14. Brush the edge of the crust with the melted butter, then dust with the cinnamon sugar
  15. Cook for an additional 6 minutes, or more if you desire darker crust
  16. BURP the Egg and open the lid, and remove the pizza when done
  17. Place onto your cutting board and cut into 8 slices
  18. Drizzle with slightly warm caramel sauce and eat
  19. Goes GREAT with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top
