How To Use A Big Green Egg Plancha

So, you bought the Big Green Egg Plancha. Now what? Check out this recipe to get yourself familiar with this Eggcessory. Grab the Big Green Egg plancha, some halloumi cheese and lets get cooking.  This is a sweet and savory treat that will have everyone raving.


Yield: 8 Pieces (serves 4 people appetizer sized portions)   Prep Time: 10 Minutes   Cook Time: 6-8 Minutes (depending on desired doneness)

Cook Temp: 450˚ - with Plancha

Ingredients

Preparation Directions:

  1. Wash all tools prior to use
  2. Clean and sanitize all cutting boards and prep surfaces prior to use
  3. Read all manufacturer’s instructions before using grills, starters and any cooking tools
  4. Make sure your plancha is seasoned prior to its first use
  5. 10-15 Minutes Ahead – prep cheese and bread as follows
  6. Slice Baguette on a bias (angle) making 8ea slices about ¼” thick
  7. Slice Halloumi cheese into 8 planks
  8. Drizzle all sides with oil
  9. Season all sides with Oink Rub
  10. Let rest on plate while Big Green Egg reaches temp

Cooking Directions:

  1. Stir charcoal in the Big Green Egg and Top off with Fresh Charcoal, move charcoal pile to one side to create that Dual Zone or Indirect Setup
  2. Clean out ash pit if needed
  3. Open Bottom vent and top vent for maximum air flow during startup process
  4. Make a well towards the one side of the Egg and ignite the charcoal using speedilight starters or an EGGniter
  5. When temp hits 200˚ add the Big Green Egg Plancha/Griddle on top of the grill grate, over the hottest side of the egg
  6. Close the dome
  7. Heat to pit temp of 450˚ and hold
  8. Burb Big Green Egg and Open dome
  9. Lightly oil the Plancha with the canola/olive oil
  10. Add the seasoned halloumi slices onto the oil and cook on each side for approx. 2-3 minutes or until desired doneness is reached
  11. Carefully remove from the grill, place onto a cooking sheet and bring into the kitchen for finishing
  12. Spread each piece of baguette with jalapeno jelly and top with cooked halloumi cheese
  13. Prior to serving, add any final garnish or seasoning with Fire Salt
